We’re delighted to announce that three of our illustrators have been nominated for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards! The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals are the UK’s oldest and most prestigious children’s book awards. Often described by authors and illustrators as ‘the one they want to win’ – they are the gold standard in children’s literature. The CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal is awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people. Past winners include Chris Riddell, Quentin Blake and Lauren Child. The awards previously chose Tiny Owl books as part of their selection of diverse titles that were eligible for the award. Last year two of our titles, A Bottle of Happiness and The Elephant’s Umbrella, were nominated!

Ehsan Abdollahi was nominated for Thinker: My Puppy Poet and Me, written by Eloise Greenfield. The beautiful and unique illustrations were created with collage using hand-dyed paper. Ehsan was also nominated last year for his illustrations in A Bottle of Happiness!

Catell Ronca was nominated for The Drum, written by Ken Wilson-Max. The book is full of vibrant and colourful painted artwork that reflects the joy of music.

Marjan Vafaeian was nominated for Cinderella of the Nile, written by Beverley Naidoo. The gorgeous, intricate illustrations were amazingly all completed using ballpoint pen.

Everyone at Tiny Owl is so proud of our nominated illustrators and their amazing work! You can follow the awards on social media with the hashtag #CKG19. Stay tuned for the Longlist announcement on 18th February 2019!
