I don’t have many children’s poetry books in my home. Some I have are ones I used when I first started teaching and now my girlies enjoy them. Are there many poetry books on your shelves? Some of you may remember this book that I shared a long long while ago and it’s one we continue to enjoy. I love the way the poetry just sings from the pages in this book. It’s rhythmic and fun and Thinker is actually a rather clever puppy who is a poet. A family give Thinker a home and Jace, the young boy in the family, becomes the best of companions. The book is written by Eloise Greenfields. It was her first published work in the U.K. Eloise aims to write about black culture in a positive, uplifting way and this read celebrates just that. Thinker, is talented and Jace tell you stories through verse where each turn of page tells you more about their friendship, family and everyday life. The original collage illustrations by Iranian artist Ehsan Abdollahi are colourful and fun, creating an engaging read, bringing Thinker and his owner to life. The flowers on the cover of my post are actually part of the endpapers in the book. So pretty. – – – -Book previously gifted from @tiny_owl_publishing #kidsbookstagram #raiseareader #diversebooksforkids #poetryforkids
