This fresh interpretation of the Brothers Grimm tale of the twelve princesses is a beautiful depiction of the power of a magical fairy tale. It tells the story of the twelves princesses who are locked in the castle at night yet are exhausted each morning and their dancing shoes worn out. The king is determined to know what happens and promises the hand of any of his daughters to the brave man who can solve the mystery. Each many who tried failed. Until a young soldier, having taken the advice of a wise woman in the woods, discovers the truth behind their nighttime adventures. But unlike the story told by Brothers Grimm, this soldier seems a different ending. He knows no woman is a prize to be won. And he also knows how to follow his heart. The illustrations in this book are truly unique and hold a puppet-like quality to them, giving the impression of movement too. They are rich and melancholic a befitting the tale. This is the third book in the #OneStoryManyVoices series from @tiny_owl_publishing which explores well-known fairytales from different perspectives and told with the words and illustrations of authors and artists from all around the world.
