Paris Cat by @diannehofmeyr and illustrated by @pietgrobler.illustrator follows the adventures of a Parisian alley cat who believes she is different from her family and sets off to see more of the world. Her adventure leads Cat to meet two spectacular women. In Café de Paris she meets the legendary singer Edith Plaf, creates her some stunning fashion pieces at a Paris fashion house and dances with the infamous Josephine Baker. Soon, she is as famous as the people she has met but she wants more. She misses her family and their squabbling and decides to open her very own night club – Madame Kitty’s Catacombs Club! I love the woven layers of narrative within this story – fiction, history and biography meet seamlessly and I came away wanting to find out more Edith Plaf and Josephine Baker and her cheetah! The story is an inspiring tale of believing in yourself, being brave and trying something new, having a sense of adventure and wanting to learn from new experiences. After all, a cat may have nine lives but we only get one. It’s a brilliant reminder to readers young and old to make the most of our time on this planet.
