Ehsan Abdollahi’s self-portrait with his declined application

Tiny Owl are delighted to invite you to hear a panel discussion with Ehsan Abdollahi at the House of Illustration!

The illustrator of When I Coloured In the World and A Bottle of Happiness made headlines recently when his visa application was declined, denying him the opportunity to appear at Edinburgh International Book Festival. After an overwhelming surge of public support and media coverage in the Guardian and The Bookseller, this refusal was overturned, enabling him to visit the UK as planned.

Now, as well as his Edinburgh appearances, and two workshops for children at the Parasol Unit, Ehsan joins us for this special event in London. The panel will discuss his work, the importance of diversity in children’s books, intercultural artistic collaboration, and the issues created around this by the refusal of visas such as Ehsan’s.

Colin McKenzie, Director of the House of Illustration, said of Ehsan’s visit, ‘House of Illustration is delighted to host this important event. We exist to champion illustration in all its forms and are particularly excited to be celebrating the work of an acclaimed Iranian illustrator here in London.’
