We are utterly delighted to announce that Last: The Story of a White Rhino has been longlisted for the 2021 Green Earth Book Award!

We have announced the Long List of nominees for the 2021 national Green Earth Book Award, which is bestowed annually to children’s and young adult literature that best convey the message of environmental stewardship. The Long List has been culled down to 74 out of a record-breaking number of 192 books submitted this year in four categories: Picture Book; Children’s Fiction; Young Adult Fiction; and Children’s and Young Adult Nonfiction. From this list, one winner and potentially several honor books will be chosen in each category.

For the 17th year, we will bestow the award to winners chosen by a panel of literary, environmental, and educational professionals, bringing national recognition to important works and their authors and illustrators with its highly qualified “seal of approval” for environmental literature.

“As America reclaims her place on the global climate stage, educating the next generation of environmental leaders may be our greatest investment and, perhaps, our most lasting legacy,” said Amy Marasco, president of The Nature Generation. “We’re proud to be able to shine a spotlight on the authors and illustrators who teach our youth about the beauty of nature and how to preserve it.”

The 2021 Green Earth Book Award winners and honor books in each category will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.
