Ehsan Abdollahi

It was so exciting to see that Ehsan Abdollahi has been selected as the illustrator in residence at the Edinburgh International Book Fair this year, which has been announced in media outlets such as The Guardian, and many others.

Ehsan is the Iranian illustrator behind three Tiny Owl books (Thinker: My Puppy Poet and MeWhen I Coloured in the World, and A Bottle of Happiness). He made the headlines in 2017 after he was denied a visa to attend Edinburgh International Book Festival. The decision was later revoked after vehement public outcry sparked by lively social media campaigns. It’s so wonderful to see the tide has completely turned, and Ehsan is now being honoured with this wonderful title.

Ehsan will be the first Iranian illustrator to hold this title, which is particular heartwarming considering that Ehsan was part of our first intercultural project A Bottle of Happiness, where we aimed to link authors and illustrators across the world. It’s so lovely to see Ehsan’s work thriving in the UK.

Well done Ehsan; you deserve it!
