Can you bottle happiness? Can you bottle laughter? Can you bottle love?

This book is an original tale yet it has the feel of a traditional one which tells the story of Pim and his dog, Tiddle. They live on one side of a tall mountain where the people work hard, but have little to spare. Together, they climb over the mountain to the other side where people are rich and have a big market where they sell things to each other.

Pim would love one of the pieces of beautiful fruit on offer, but he has nothing to give in return for it. So he goes home to collect some happiness…

Encouraging us to think about the value of possessions and the really important things in life- happiness, laughter, love, stories, sharing- ‘A Bottle of Happiness‘ offers lots to think about and great starting points for discussion. The story also lends itself to lots of drama and writing activities.

The illustrations are wonderful! Colours patchwork together creating original and quirky pictures which leap from the page. Adding that sense of magic to the book which children love, they were created by Iranian-born illustrator, Ehsan Abdollahi, who was inspired by the fabrics and clothes of the people of southern Iran.

A Bottle of Happiness‘ is the first in a new series of intercultural books by Tiny Owl Publishing. If they all live up to this standard, I can’t wait to see what follows!
