Chalk Eagle

I had the opportunity to have a look at the wordless picture book Chalk Eagle by the Iranian author and illustrator Nazli Tahvili. It’s the story of a young boy who lives in a big city. One day he sees an eagle from his window; he runs onto the rooftop to have a better look at it and he finds out how to achieve his dream of freedom simply by using his imagination. Therefore, this story is very close to children’s way of feeling things and their vision of the world. This story, told through images, has a very clear and easy path to follow thanks to the vivid colors and the precise structure of the story line. As with every wordless picture book, it gives children the chance to find their own words to tell the story and this really makes the difference as they have the opportunity to improve their linguistic and storytelling skills.

Laura Bellini is the creator of our wordless picture book Little Eli
