Mmmm, doesn’t this look totally delicious! To celebrate the publication of her newest picture book Lots of Dots, author Pippa Goodhart has let us in on her secret dotsy, chocolate cake recipe! What better way to celebrate the dotsy gang! Follow the instructions below with an adult helper to make your own!
Dotty Chocolate Tray Bake
Turn your oven to 180C or gas mark 4.
Line a small baking tin (about 25cm by 35cm) with baking paper.
225g caster sugar
225g soft margarine
275g self-raising flour
2 tbsp cocoa
Put the eggs, sugar, margarine, cocoa and flour into a bowl and beat them to make a light and even mixture.
Pour the mixture into the lined tin. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes until it is risen, and a skewer poked into it comes out clean.
Remove the tin, cool, and take cake out of the paper.
40g cocoa, sieved
350g icing sugar, sieved
About 4 tbsp of milk
Melt the margarine in a saucepan. Add the cocoa and stir over a gentle heat for a minute. Take off the heat. Stir in the icing sugar and as much milk as is needed to make a smooth spreading consistency.
Pour and spread over the cake. Sprinkle with Smartie dots.
Cut up, and enjoy!
