CLPE’s Best Books of 2017

Buy A Bottle of Happiness

Superb news: A Bottle of Happiness has been listed among CLPE’s Staff Picks of the best books of 2017! CLPE, the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, is a charity working with everyone involved in teaching literacy in primary schools. Its staff – and their children – have made a list of their 2017 favourites.

Ann Lazim had this to say about A Bottle of Happiness:

“When Iranian illustrator Ehsan Abdollahi was refused a UK visa to attend the Edinburgh Book Festival earlier this year, an outcry from the children’s book community in the press and on social media resulted in the government decision being reversed, demonstrating the power of peaceful protest. Here he illustrates, in a patchwork of colours of both bright and more subtle shades and geometric shapes and patterns, Pippa Goodhart’s story about learning to share.”

And that wasn’t the only list on which A Bottle of Happiness turned up. ACHUKA, a blog dedicated to children’s book news and author features, invited experts from across the children’s book industry to name their picks of 2017. And South African author and activist Beverley Naidoo, author of our upcoming title Cinderella of the Nile, picked A Bottle of Happiness! She said of the book:

A Bottle of Happiness by Pippa Goodhart, vividly illustrated by Ehsan Abdollahi (Tiny Owl) is the stuff of fable and fantasy, inviting children to engage in philosophy.”

Thanks to Ann Lazim at CLPE and to Beverley for their kind words about A Bottle of Happiness!
