Very happy to see this piece in The Guardian by one of the readers, chosen A Bird Like Himself for their children Cian and Reily and described it great. Here is the text and their lovely photo:
One of Cian’s favourite words at the moment is “birdy” so this book looked promising. Reilly enjoyed hearing the story about a bird who hatches alone and in the absence of any natural parents is looked after by a collection of animals. Cian enjoyed identifying the elephant, dog, snake, cow and sheep and making all the appropriate noises, just as the bird learns to do. I liked the smudgy illustrations and the choice of dark colours. Helpfully the text is printed in white on the darker backgrounds. After reading this book we had some interesting discussions about how babies and children learn things from those around them, which for us extended to sibling relationships as well as parental bonds. A thumbs up for this one from Cian (aged 1) and Reilly (almost 4)!
